Notes From the Underground

On my first trip to the USA, back in 2000 on assignment for @rockandicemag , I visited #Yosemite and made this image of Cedar Wright on Notes From the Underground. In the background you can see why the Dawn Wall of El Capitan gets it’s name. Massive congratulations to @tommycaldwell and @kjorgeson for just now making the first free ascent of the #dawnwall, the culmination so many attempts and so much hard work over six years; with a final push of 19 days on the wall, with pitches up to grade 14.d (35). World’s hardest “big wall”. The media coverage (frenzy?) on this has been really interesting to me; I’ve never seen anything in rock climbing go so far beyond just the climbing media. I just now watched the live video feed of Tommy and Kevin completing the last few pitches — with the video feed courtesy of mainstream media. Gotta say, it was very cool seeing history being made! So #psyched for these guys. So very inspiring to us all in so many ways! #dreambig #climbing #rockclimbing
