Our Terminal World

Abby Watkins, Our Terminal World (25), Point Perpendicular, NSW, Australia.

What do you do when you are a climber and a photographer and see a stunning unclimbed arete? Establish a route up it, of course. And I was right in thinking that it would make a good photo; for starters a pic of me making the first ascent in 1992 ended up on the cover of Rock Magazine. I returned a few years later to get his one of the amazing Abby Watkins climbing it. It’s grade 25 and the route name, Our Terminal World, is a reference to the way the overhanging arete makes you feel like you are at the end of the world…. and it is also a reference to this thing called global warming that we were starting to hear talk of back then (as is the route Global Gas Oven at Booroomba). It was meant to be a kinda tounge in cheek reference because I really thought something so important would get sorted before too long… Maybe it still will, it’s only being like near 24 years… Ah, the memories. We were so young and naive… #throwback #tbt #PointPerpendicular #SeeAustralia @visitnsw #NewSouthWales
