About simon carter

I was born in Canberra, Australia, in 1966, and became interested in both photography and climbing as a teenager.

In 1990 I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Outdoor Education at the La Trobe University, Bendigo. This time helped me develop some of the philosophies under-pinning my photography work.

I started rock climbing in 1984 and have climbed regularly since then. In the early 1990’s I did some stints of full-time climbing which gave me the time to attempt some of the harder classic routes in Australia. I even managed get up a few of them, including Serpentine and Evil D (29's). I still climb pretty much every chance I get.

These days I live in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney, with my partner Monique Forestier — a talented rock climber who in recent years has raised the top standards of Australian women's climbing. We have a dog, his name is Ziggy.
