Rock Climbing in Oz - now a collectors item   ·  20 August 2008

We have just learnt that my book Rock Climbing in Australia has now completely SOLD OUT! We were caught out by this and are unable to get any more stock from the publishers.

Rock Climbing in Australia

The book was first published by New Holland Australia in 1998, it was very well received and sold steadily — with the first large print run selling out within a few years. New Holland reprinted the book in 2005 with a much smaller quantity. Now that it has sold out again it comes down to finances and number crunching as to whether it will be reprinted again. The publishers have said they’ll advise me of their decision in the next few months but knowing what I know about the publishing business I think it unlikely that it will be reprinted again. I’d be happy to be proven wrong though!

I’m bummed it has sold out. It’s a book I always want to be available. Since we ran out of stock here ourselves we have already had numerous disappointed mail-order customers who have missed out. If anyone out there knows of any retail outlets who have the book in stock then please email us with the details so that we can help look after these customers.

In the publishing industry there is a lot of resistance to publishing coffee-table photo books on climbing. Many coffee-table books on the subject have been commercial disasters in the past. But Rock Climbing in Australia was different: it was both critically acclaimed and was also a great commercial success.

If you already own a copy of Rock Climbing in Australia then congratulations: you might be the owner of what is now potentially a collectors item!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who purchased a copy of the book in the past. The book sales have been a great support to my photography projects. It all makes a difference.
