Why I'm Psyched!   ·  4 December 2009

OK, the word is over used, but “psyched” is the best way to sum up the jumping-out-of-my-skin-with-excitement feeling that I’ve got right now. Here’s why I am so psyched right now – and why I’ve been so busy:

  • I’m psyched because I’ve been working on some really interesting photo shoots for great clients. These are not your average “abseil-in and see what you get” shoots that you see so much of these days, these are high-end conceptual shoots that have required a lot of planning and reconnoitering. I love it!
  • I’m stoked because I’m also about to start work on a really exciting project with Nikon. I’m incredibly honoured to have been selected for this. I can’t say much at the moment but “watch this space” over the coming weeks!
  • Speaking of Nikon, I’m amped because the company has just released a couple of dream machines for pro photographers: the D3s camera (an upgrade of their top end camera with a new sensor, video, and more) and the 70-200mm VR-II lens (a super sharp tele zoom with vibration reduction). These are only just becoming available in Australia and I’ve already got the lens in my hot little hands (time will tell how often this will replace my prime lenses… but this lens is sweet!) and will be test driving the D3s next week; all reports so far say it’s a winner!
  • I’m happy because feedback on the World Climbing Calendar 2010 has been exceptional and sales have been fast. I know of some outlets that have already sold out months earlier than normal. Sorry for the plug, but seriously, it will sell out early this year so if you want to get it for yourself or as a Chrissy present, don’t delay. More info here, and it’s available from our online shop here.
  • I get lots of emails with climbing photography “how to” questions so there’s obviously a lot of interest in this stuff. I’m pleased to say I’ve decided to start sharing some of my ideas, tips and techniques from 16 years of professional climbing photography. I’m looking forward to chewing the fat and talking shop with other climbing photographers out there.

I’ve also got lots of photos and articles almost ready to go online here in the next few weeks. Stay tuned. Stay psyched. And as always I welcome your feedback.
