cool, um…

Rafael Miura, Space Oddity (29), Coolum, Queensland.

Howdy!

This week I’ve got some more pics from my recent trip to Queensland; these are from the blocky, funky, 3-D tetris cubic, hard-core climbing paradise that is Mount Coolum on the Sunshine Coast. Such a cool, um… place!

😉

OK, I’ve been busy but now I’m happy to announce that the new SE Queensland Climbing guidebook is finally at the printers and we have an ETA on it for the very start of December. Phew! That was a lot of work, and I had to double down, but come to think of it I’ve not yet produced a guidebook that wasn’t a lot more work than I expected it to be. Massive thanks to the climbers who helped out with info and authoring text; the help was phenomenal and a reminder why I think the Queensland scene is so awesome! This book is a completely redesigned and fully updated new edition — and it includes the addition of two significant new areas (Mount Ninderry and Pages Pinnacle). I know many people have been hanging out for this book, sorry to keep you waiting but we wanted to do this right. Enough said. You can preview and pre-order it –> here.

What else… well, a few weeks ago I posted the cover image of the World Climbing Calendar 2018 on social media (Facebook and Instagram) and it went kind of ballistic (over 200 shares on Facebook). Such a fantastic reaction, such brilliant comments! Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who expressed how psyched they were about the image. I had always loved the shot but it’s great — and motivating — to hear about it from others. Good to know I’m still on the right track with my photography after all these years. Also, thanks to everyone who has already ordered the calendar.

Oh, and finally, sorry to talk shop, but if you haven’t got it already by now, you really should have a copy of Rock Climbing Down Under; Australia Exposed on your bookshelf (or on your coffee-table, as the case may be). I’m really proud of this book, it was not simply an effort to capture the beauty of our country’s best climbing areas, I also photographed over 200 different climbers and 80 different climbers authored stories or other text. This is what the Australian climbing community is all about and I am privileged to be a part of it. Now, I want every climber who hasn’t already got a copy to be able to get one. So, while I’m not planning to discount the remaining Limited Edition copies, we have discounted the Regular Edition considerably (down to $40 on our webshop) and also worked out deals with some outlets in Sydney: so check out Mountain Equipment, Climbing Anchors, 9-Degrees (both Alexandria and Parramatta gyms; they are giving it away with memberships!), Climb Fit and Nomad Bouldering for some incredible deals on this book! I’ll have more info on these and some other deals next time…

Thanks for reading! More soon.
