Congratulations to everyone who fronted up and had a go in Ultratrail Australia last weekend! Hope the recovery is going well.
This is my “Ultratrail Light Trails” pic for this year. The runners coming down the Giant Staircase next to the Three Sisters are approximately 62km into the fun, whereas the runners down in the Jamison Valley are heading to the finish, with only four to six kilometers left of the 100km course.
The concept behind this shot has been a few years in the making. When I first photographed Ultratrail a few years ago I tried to find some original ways to capture this massive event and some of the unique things about it — including the location here in the Blue Mountains. Shooting night time-lapse of runners headlamps from a distance was one of the things that I tried. The shot evolved, last year I worked the unique and iconic Three Sisters into the shot, and this year I think I made some good progress with it. The image is dozens of 20 second exposures stitched together to create the time lapse. It’s available as a print from my website >> here.
Congratulations again to everyone involved with this awesome event. You could feel and hear the good vibes at the finish line from where I was sitting!
