Mountains. With thanks to Harry Kadi for the catch. Waylander is one of the new crags that will be in the 2019 edition of the Blue Mountains Climbing guidebook which we are currently working on. We've now effectively sold out of the 2015 Edition. In the meantime, the new Best of the Blue book, which covers 19 sports crags, will be available NEXT WEEK! Stay tuned. Today Mike Law and Eugene Mak are attempting a one day ascent of the 500m The Camel (18), a route they recently established in sections with Jeff Crass. This shot is straight out of the camera, of Eugene leading the 9th pitch. They reached the halfway ledge at 12:10pm and are now on the 11th pitch. Only 8 or 9 to go after that. Making good time.

Got a new camera last week and now having had some time to play with it I am so stoked! I went for the Z6 in Nikon's first series of full-frame mirrorless cameras and they have nailed it. The Z6 has so much going for it for climbing and outdoor photography -- both for stills and video. For stills, the sensor quality, high frame rate, focusing ability (tracking focus pretty much entire frame), image stabilisation, and the screens and controls are going to change the way I work - for the better. For video, the output in full-frame 4k in exceptionally high quality, with great controls, is just incredible. All this in a lighter weight and smaller camera, it's a dream come true. Already frothing for the 14-30mm lens due out next year, which will be especially awesome for climbing photography. I was very reluctant to switch from film to digital about 10 years ago, but the advantages here are obvious. I'm psyched! The pics: 1. Detail. Shot with a macro lens on my D750 (at least that camera is still good for something). 2. The Z6. 3. Wattle bird, shot from my back porch, with a 600mm f4 on the Z6. This is Ashlee Hendy and Elizabeth Chong on The Man Who Sold the World (25), at Clean Cuts crag in the Grampians. . I first became aware of this route when working on the 2015 Grampians guidebook. Undeniably photogenic, I thought about what would be the best possible way to shoot this route and I came up with an answer but it took a few years before everything came together. I predicted the light but it’s funny how the little details count for so much. I couldn't have done it without the hard work of Ashlee and Liz who were absolute legends on the day. The result is better than what I envisioned and this has become one of personal favourite pics. I’m very happy to see it used in this way. . So, thanks so much for this Rock and Ice -- as well as all the support over the years! Mike Law and Eugene Mak started walking in to Mt Banks from the Pierce's Pass car park at 6.30am, started climbing at 9am and climbed the 19 pitch 500m route The Camel (18), topping out at 5pm today. It was the first continuous ascent of this route, which they had established earlier in sections along with Jeff Crass.
