Black Gold

Monique Forestier leading Black Gold (25) at Corroboree Walls, in the Blue Mountains. I rebolted this route on ring bolts (and beefed up the belay) a bit over a year ago because… well it’s great line and probably hadn’t seen many (any?) ascents in the last 20 years, you would have been nuts to lead it on the long since rusty old carrots that had been placed by John Smoothy for his first ascent back in 1987… and oh, I knew it’d be a good one for pics. 😉 Warning: we found it to be a bit of sandbag, Crunch gave it 24 but it’s at least a grade harder than that, also the crux is around the arete — which has rope-cutting potential, so I’d recommend being very careful but it’s probably just best to use double ropes…. #enjoy.
