I don’t normally laugh at someone’s pain and suffering, but this photo shoot really cracked me up! It’s a #throwback to 2000 on our first trip to the USA when I was shooting an assignment for
@rockandicemag for their photo annual. We were at Indian Creek, Utah, and John Varco told us about this crazy off-width that he’d climbed, a route no nauseatingly exhausting that it was aptly named Belly Full of Bad Berries (5.13a/b). Sounded um, interesting… So we headed up there, set up my rope, I got in position and John started climbing, errr… thrutching, up the crack. This was back in the days of film and before long I’d shot off a whole roll, so I quickly did a film change on the fly while John was still climbing, and then I shot that whole roll off as well. It was then that I realised that in the time that I’d shot TWO whole rolls of film, for all John’s thrutching he’d just managed to move less than ONE meter up the climb! And that was when I cracked up laughing!
